Mindfulness

What you foster grows!

Whatever you give your attention and love to, will grow and will flourish in your care. Be it a plant, a kitten, our studies, a child…

But it isn’t only external things which flourish.

You can cultivate kindness, and it will grow 💜

You can cultivate compassion, and it will grow💚

You can cultivate generosity, and it will grow 💛

You can cultivate joy, and it will grow 💙

But if you cultivate negativity, negativity will grow in you. Anger, frustration, resentment, aggression, isolation, fear, anxiety… they can take over your life. It could be that you are stuck in a cycle that you don’t know how to break out of because you are not equipped.

Mindfulness teaches you that you are not your thoughts and your emotions. It teaches you how to cope with fears and anxieties so that they don’t dominate. Mindfulness gives you mental space and reduces anxiety. It equips you to be happy. All it takes is a few minutes of meditation a day!

What an investment!

What is Mindfulness Meditation?

The simplest description of Mindfulness is this – taking some time out to follow the breath. Following each in-breath and each out-breath. When the mind gets distracted (and it does!!), simply bringing it back to following the breath. Mindfulness Meditation is training of the mind, and this training will help you to be more present in your day-to-day life.

How does this help?

This helps by giving you mental space as a result it reduces anxiety and mental chatter. The beauty of mindfulness is that you can start feeling the effects soon after you start to meditate.

You will quickly realise that you, like everyone else, engage in a lot of mental chatter which tends to be very harsh or negative. This constant chatter and negativity blocks you from being kind to yourself.

Mindfulness helps to create space in your mind, a space in which you are less judgmental of yourself and others. Your thoughts stop being so overwhelming. Mindfulness also shows you that you are not alone. Many of your issues affect others as well and you become more aware of the shared human experience.

Mindfulness is a practice

This means that the long term benefits come from daily practice, not from one or two good sessions a year. It also means that the more you put in, the more benefits you will experience.

Paradoxically, by making time to practice on a daily basis, you also realise that you have more time. Your to-do list won’t get shorter, but you will have more focus, you will procrastinate less and you will be more clear in your intentions.

Living with your emotions

Being mindful will teach you that all emotions are important, even negative ones. Mindfulness isn’t about silencing your minds, your worries and your fears. It is about learning to be in the moment, despite the difficulties you may be living through.

Why learn Mindfulness today?

Practicing Mindfulness brings with it a sense of equanimity, a sense of belonging, and a sense of purpose. It teaches you how to deal with your fears, emotions and anxieties.

Let’s face it, there is no better time to learn such skills than today!
